South Houston Patio Outdoor Project

South Houston Patio Outdoor Project

This South Houston patio outdoor living project brought the indoors out by adding a pergola to the existing outdoor patio.  The addition of the pergola to this South Houston patio created a space which included a living area and  studio for the homeowner. A 12′ X 62′ pergola was built out of very large cedar timbers for durability. The design achieved the customers goal of cooling down the rear of the house from the heat of the western setting sun.  The owners wanted a space to relax and enjoy watching their dogs.  The walkway under the pergola is made with thin brick pavers. All of the windows and doors installed leading to the patio are energy efficient.  The patio floor is a faux finish stamped concrete overlaid on top of old concrete and convenient way to achieve a finished look for a lesser cost.

When planning an outdoor living project such as a pergola there are pros and cons to choosing materials. Cedar wood  as compared to pressure treated wood is a good choice because it is light and strong.  Keep in mind wood needs to be maintained with painting or staining to protect from the elements. Fiberglass is another choice that stands the test of time. It’s high cost and difficulty in finding manufacturers for the design and size you may desire may prove to be a hindrance to your project plans.
